The average daily number of passengers arriving at airports in Portugal remained above 100,000 in October, according to data released by the National Statistics Institute (INE).

In October 2023, national airports handled 6.4 million passengers and 20, thousand tons of cargo and mail, corresponding to variations of +11.9% and +6.8%, respectively, compared to October 2022. Compared to October 2019, there were increases of 16.4% and 3.1%.

"Since the beginning of 2023, there have been historic highs in monthly passenger numbers at national airports. In October 2023, there was an average daily disembarkation of 101.2 thousand passengers, a figure higher than that recorded in October 2022 ( 90.7 thousand; +11.6%) and 17.8% above that seen in October 2019 (85.9 thousand)", explains INE.

Between January and October 2023, the number of passengers increased by 20.6% compared to the same period in 2022, while the movement of cargo and mail registered a decrease (-1.7%). Compared to the same period in 2019, there were increases of 12.2% and 6.2%, respectively.

"Considering the volume of passengers disembarked and boarded on international flights between January and October 2023, the United Kingdom was the main country of origin and destination for flights, with growth of 17.5% in the number of disembarked passengers and 17.6% % in the number of passengers boarded, compared to the same period in 2022. France and Spain occupied the second and third position, respectively, both as country of origin and as country of destination for flights".
