December 2023 storages by river basin were generally higher than the December storage averages (1990/91 to 2022/23), except in the Lima, Cávado, Ribeiras Costeiras, Douro, Ribeiros do Oeste and Tejo basins.

At the end of December, the Barlavento basin continued to have the smallest amount of water, just 7.7%, when the average is 63.1%.

Of the 60 monitored reservoirs, 16 had water availability greater than 80% of the total volume and another 16 less than 40%.

According to SNIRH data available today, at the end of December, the Barlavento (7.7%), Arade (24.6%), Mira (30.8%) and Sado (40.5%) basins had less water availability.
