The Figueira da Foz City Council, in the district of Coimbra, will no longer build a third saltwater pool on the beach, which was expected to be inaugurated next summer, for financial reasons.

The announcement was made by the president of the City Hall, Pedro Santana Lopes.

“For now, it is impossible, because resources are limited and we have other options on the table that we have to consider”, the mayor confirmed to journalists, quoted by Lusa.

The municipality is analysing the construction of a multi-purpose pavilion and large sports equipment and the issue of the beach pool, on the city's waterfront, is still pending.

“These are different issues, on the one hand, but it will all amount to the same thing and, within the principles of good management, we cannot go ahead with everything”, highlighted the president of the Chamber.

It was planned that that pool would be installed in the middle of Avenida do Brasil, following the success of the other two, which, last summer, in around a month and a half of operation, registered around 70 thousand entries.

The tender for its construction, budgeted at more than 300 thousand euros, was abandoned and the executive led by Santana Lopes decided today not to open a new tender procedure.

Inserted in the Serra da Estrela Natural Park and the UNESCO Estrela World Geopark, the route uses existing paths and has wooden walkways and suspension bridges.

Along the way, you can see waterfalls and traces of industrial heritage from old wool or electricity production factories.
