The title was awarded, on 6 March, in Berlin, Germany, at the gala dubbed the "Oscars of Tourism", according to a press release from Visit Azores, the entity responsible for the external promotion of the Azores.

The association states that this is the "fourth European title since 2020", as the award came to the archipelago also in 2021 and 2022 and at the beginning of December the archipelago was also voted as the Best Adventure Destination in the World, an award received at the World Travel Awards ceremony in Dubai.

Visit Azores emphasises that the title of Best Adventure Destination in Europe "solidifies the unique position of this archipelago as a true paradise for lovers of exciting and unforgettable experiences".

"This title once again reinforces the position of the Azorean islands not only as a place of exceptional natural beauty but also as a destination of choice for those looking for truly extraordinary experiences in the vast world of adventure tourism", it is also mentioned in the note released.

The awards also extended to the Azorean airline SATA, which won the Europe's Leading Airline to North America and Europe's Leading Regional Air categories.

For the executive director of Visit Azores, Luis Capdeville, the association and SATA "have worked together to promote and increase the notoriety of the Azores destination, resulting in the recognition of the entities with the attribution of these awards".
