Sri Lanka and Tanzania came second and third respectfully in the latest Mental State of the World report, which challenged that the idea money brings happiness. The UK ranked second bottom, beating only Uzbekistan.

The index uses data from 500,000 respondents in 71 nations, to measure how people's "inner state impacts their ability to function within their life context". The results suggest that mental wellbeing globally has plateaued since covid.
