According to the INE data, 6.7 euros was saved by Portuguese families for every 100 euros available.

Household savings remained at 6.3% in the fourth quarter, while there was 1.3% growth in both disposable income and final consumption expenditure.

The INE indicated that, in annual terms, the growth of these two aggregates was extremely close (6.7% and 6.8% respectively), which determined an equal savings rate in 2022 and 2023 (6.3%).

Salaries contributed to the development of disposable income, with a growth of 2.5% compared to the preceding quarter and 10.7% in annual terms.

In layman’s terms, families adjusted per capita disposable income increased by 0.3% and 1.1%, compared to the previous quarter and 2022, respectively.
