This also applies to couples or co-owners, as long as one of the purchasers is up to 35 years old and the other is not over 40.

These changes to the tax benefit regulations will be one of the topics under discussion at this Tuesday's Executive meeting taking place at the Sé Parish Council, as part of the municipal decentralization process. With this measure, the municipality led by social democrat Ricardo Rio intends to support young residents in the municipality in purchasing their own housing.

Applicants for this benefit cannot, however, own another urban building or autonomous unit intended for housing in the municipality. And a refund of 25% of the IMT will be granted as long as the acquisition value does not exceed the stipulated typology limits: T1 – 200 thousand euros, T2 – 250 thousand euros, and T3 – 300 thousand euros.

“After recognizing the right to support, the Braga City Council will reimburse 25% of the tax paid, deducting the value of the costs incurred with the settlement and collection of that tax by the Tax Authority”, explains the municipality in a statement.

The municipality will also contribute 50% of the cost of the construction/reconstruction project, up to a maximum amount of 1,000 euros, as long as the project is intended exclusively for own and permanent housing in the municipality of Braga.
