With this, the municipality "renews the invitation to Viseans, visitors and tourists to enjoy the historic centre in all its plenitude and safety, without cars".

Under the motto "Historic centre, car-free summer", traffic will be closed in the historic centre on Fridays and on the eve of public holidays between 7pm and 2am, on Saturdays between 4pm and 2am and on Sundays and holidays between 3pm and midnight.

According to Viseu City Council, this closure covers the main accesses to the old town, namely at the beginning of Rua dos Combatentes da Grande Guerra and at the junction of Travessa da Misericórdia and Adro da Sé, with traffic continuing via Calçada da Vigia.

The municipality explained that, on days when there are shows or concerts in the Adro da Sé, the cut-off will take place at the beginning of Travessa da Misericórdia.

Access will be authorised for residents of the historic area, people with reduced or disabled mobility and guests of hotel units, exceptionally, through Porta do Soar, in the opposite direction, with the exit being via Rua Chão do Mestre, Rua Augusta Cruz, Praça D. Duarte and, consequently, Rua Augusto Hilário or Rua D. Duarte.

The Viseu City Council also stated that during times of worship and religious ceremonies, taking place at the Viseu Cathedral or the Igreja da Misericórdia, access to the Churchyard will be permitted, exceptionally, via Travessa da Misericórdia.
