"In 2023, most radio broadcasting programme services with national, regional and local coverage met or exceeded the Portuguese music broadcasting quotas set out in the Radio Law", says the Regulatory Authority for Social Communication (ERC), in a note published on its website.

The analysis "focused on the programme services that are active and registered on the ERC Radio Portal platform and considered a monthly sample of around 150 local coverage programme services whose data communication is regular, as well as the monthly monitoring of the regional service with southern coverage (M80) and the five national services (Antena 1, Antena 3, Rádio Comercial, Rádio Renascença and RFM)".

According to the regulator, the public service radio programme services Antena 1 and Antena 3 "compliance with the legal obligations to which they are subject was observed".

Antena 1 "presented compliance of no less than 60%, both in the calculation of the 24 hours of broadcasting and in the period between 7:00 and 20:00", it adds.

"The broadcast of music composed or performed in Portuguese by citizens of the European Union was over 90% of the total broadcast and an average of 80% during the broadcast period with the highest audience. Regarding the mandatory broadcast of a minimum quota of 35% of recent music, that is, music released in the last 12 months, the 2023 figures show a monthly quota almost always above 40%", states the ERC, in its analysis.
