“A business and housing park of 18 buildings will begin to be built at the end of this year, in Oeiras, in the municipality of Oeiras, in a partnership between the largest Chinese construction company, called China Construction, and Teixeira Duarte. And in principle, when this park is finished, which will probably take two or three years, it will be, above all, to welcome Chinese companies that want to come here”, explained António Martins da Cruz.

On the sidelines of a conference on the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Portugal and the 25th anniversary of Macau's return to China, in Lisbon, the official also informed that after a business mission at the end of March to China, organized by OVIA, “a company from Shenzhen has already signed a collaboration protocol with a Portuguese company specialized in digitalization”.

Contacts should continue, with the visit of a business mission from the Guangdong and Macau Deep Cooperation Zone expected, while in October Portuguese businesspeople should return with a focus on collaboration between technology parks in Oeiras and the island of Hengqin.

The president of OVIA also mentioned that the company CALB, which is designing a battery factory for Sines, should locate its offices in Oeiras, adding that he was contacted by two other Chinese companies, which operate mainly in the “innovation and technology” sectors, to settle in the municipality.

In addition to China, Martins da Cruz also revealed that an investment fund, with whom he met in London last year, has already come to Portugal “with a company and has already started building a data center in Oeiras, which is an investment of more than 150 million euros”.

In March, in an interview with the Lusa agency, the Chinese ambassador to Portugal, Zhao Bentang, had already considered that the involvement of a Chinese company in the Oeiras project could attract “investments from Chinese companies in the area of new energy”.
