The Municipality of Lagoa bought the land of Alagoas Brancas yesterday after having signed a collaboration protocol with the Environmental Fund of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Action (MAAC) at the end of 2023, which allowed it to receive the amount donated by the government to purchase the land, reads a press release sent to the press room.

The negotiation process lasted several months and there were numerous steps taken by the permanent executive so that it was possible to reach a service agreement that allowed yesterday's act to be a reality. In addition to the steps taken by the Municipality of Lagoa, the involvement of the government, at the time of the negotiations, was decisive for the outcome of this portfolio of negotiations.

The municipality of Lagoa has already been working for a few months on the project of the Natural Park that will be built there, as it was agreed in the protocol signed with the Environmental Fund of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Action (MAAC) that the land acquired would be to build a Natural Park.

It is important to note that the subdivision of Alagoas Brancas is an integral part of the Urbanization Plan of the City of Lagoa, which was approved at the City Council meeting of 6 February 2008, which had defined the southern area of the city of Lagoa as an area for the expansion of economic activities and the implementation of industrial areas for multiple commercial and service uses. Therefore the developer had all the acquired rights to build in that area of the city.

This subdivision and construction gave birth to a civic movement, which was joined by some environmental associations, which from the first hour contested the construction in that place because they considered that there was a natural wealth there that should be preserved.

Fortunately, thanks to the understanding with the developer, who abdicated all his rights, it was possible for the Municipality of Lagoa to reach an agreement that allowed it to buy the land and preserve that area of the city, wherein 2021 the current Executive began to classify that area, through the PDM, as rural land, so that it was never possible to build on the site.

"This is a moment of great satisfaction for me and my executive, as we have managed to solve a problem that we inherited and that has been going on for many years. I think that Lagoa won because we were able to comply with what I have always been available for, which was to solve the situation without ever hindering the future of Lagoa and the people of Lagoa", said Luís Encarnação, Mayor of Lagoa.
