Fuel prices will continue their recent upward trend from next Monday and this will be the fourth consecutive week of price increases. “The evolution of prices in euros points to a price increase of up to 1.5 cents per litre for 95 petrol and 1 cent per litre for diesel”, a source from one of the country's main oil companies told 'Executive Digest'.
Along the same lines, prices at petrol stations near supermarkets follow the market trend, with a “rise of 0.0112 euros in gasoline and an increase of 0.0084 euros in diesel”, said another source.
Since the 17th of June, fuel prices have only shown one direction: rising. During this period, 95 petrol went from €1.702/litre to €1.737/litre; diesel went from €1.523/litre to €1.594/litre. In other words, in the last four weeks, Portuguese drivers have seen their bills increase by €2.1 and €4.26, respectively.
Data from DGEG shows that the average price of a liter of simple diesel in Portugal currently costs 1.595 euros per liter, while that of simple 95 gasoline costs 1.738 euros.
The latest European Commission fuel bulletin indicates that Portugal has the 9th most expensive 95 petrol in Europe, around 0.6 cents below the European average and 11.6 cents more expensive than Spain. Diesel is ranked 13th in the European ranking among the most expensive.
Among EU countries, Denmark and the Netherlands have the most expensive 95 petrol in the Old Continent: 2,072 and 2,013 euros, respectively. Denmark also stands out with the most expensive diesel in the EU, at 1,787 euros.
Why the increase? When will the govt re-calculate the fuel price?
