The Agency for the Integrated Management of Rural Fires (AGIF) and the Algarve Intermunicipal Community (AMAL) have signed a protocol to “develop appropriate practices for fire risk management, to improve awareness and reduce the main causes involving owners, managers, producers and the community in general”, reveals a statement released by the agency.

The pilot project will focus on a region where “extensive burning, burning and the use of machinery and equipment, i.e. causes originating from human behaviour” were the main causes of ignitions between 2019 and 2022, the national public institute points out.

To reduce these risky behaviours, AGIF, within the scope of its responsibilities in the National Action Programme (PNA) in “Integrated Communication for Risk” and in line with the goals of the Algarve Regional Action Programme, namely in the theme “Specialised Communication of Proximity”, will make 130 thousand euros available for the initiative, which will be coordinated by AMAL.
