The new equipment is the culmination of the process of modernisation and standardisation of the staff's image, with a view to providing the men and women of the Fire Department with optimal safety conditions in the performance of their duties, depending on the operational functions and the type of incident.
“We must recognise that, due to the specificity and dangerousness of the duties they perform, firefighters always have a prominent position in our investment priorities. In this sense, we have spared no effort to ensure that these men and women have the best conditions”, highlights the mayor, António Miguel Pina, who was present at the delivery of the equipment.
Expressing a “special affection” for firefighters, the mayor of Olhão recalled that “the delivery of this equipment is the culmination of an investment process that, over the last few years, has made our Fire Department one of the best equipped in the entire Algarve”.
The equipment now made available includes new PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) for the new firefighters, and state-of-the-art helmets specialised for forest fires and urban fires for the entire force.
New defibrillators, more ergonomic pre-hospital backpacks and radios for the SIRESP and ROB networks were also purchased and delivered to the Municipal Fire Department of Olhão.
António Miguel Pina also took the opportunity to say that he hopes to launch the tender for the construction of the future fire station by the end of this term.
