According to the municipality, beer cans had been thrown into the water reservoir that supplies Burgau on 20 August. The municipality cut off the water supply to the village because it had been contaminated, and the police went to the location to collect evidence.

Today the water supply has been restored, according to a post on Facebook: “The Mayor of the Municipal Council, Rute Silva, informs that the work on draining all existing water in the Burgau reservoir, sanitizing it and replenishing water to supply levels ended early this morning, August 22, 2024

“By the end of this morning, all homes affected by this outage will have regular water supply”.

The municipality added: “We want to thank and praise the excellent work and dedication of the municipality employees involved in this operation, the Municipal Civil Protection Service, the Volunteer Firefighters of the Vila do Bispo and Aljezur. And also to the Republican National Guard and the Public Health Authority for their support and accompaniment. We also thank the affected population for their understanding and resilience shown during this water cut, caused by the invasion/vandalization of the Burgau water reservoir.

“If anyone has any information that they deem pertinent to find those responsible for this situation, please contact the municipality of Vila do Bispo or the relevant entities”.
