The Mangualde City Council announced the launch of the MOVMangualdeAPP, which allows you to view parking spaces in the city centre in real-time on your smartphone. One aspect of the 319 thousand euro SmartParking initiative involved installing sensors in roughly 550 spots around the city, with all data being gathered via an online platform.
As part of the Strategic Urban Development Plan for the City of Mangualde, SmartParking was an investment totalling 319 thousand euros which fell under the scope of Smartcities, with 85 percent of the funding provided by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The mayor of Mangualde, Marco Almeida explained, “The mobile application is a very important component of this project, since, through technology, in the palm of your hand, parking will be much simpler and easier, proving to be a strong contribution to carbon neutrality”.
Besides the implementation of the phone application, five informative panels were also installed in selected places in the city of Mangualde. As the mayor further explained, “After a successful testing phase, this information equipment is now operational and also shows, in real-time, the different parking zones and the respective availability of spaces”.
“The fact that we now are able to know, in real-time, the availability of parking, will contribute to reducing traffic in the city centre, shortening travel time between places and reducing CO2 emissions”, Marco Almeida shared. No changes have been made to the number of paid zones with the implementation of the MOVMangauldeAPP, the local authority has reassured.
