This is the first time that the Tribeca festival, founded two decades ago in New York, has had an edition in Europe, with Lisbon hosting a program of cinema, entertainment and conversations with more than a hundred participants, including directors, actors, musicians, figures from entertainment and journalists.

The official opening of the Tribeca Festival Lisboa is scheduled for today with an event for guests at MAAT - Museu de Arte, Arquitetura e Tecnologia, and the central program will take place on Friday and Saturday at the Beato Innovation District.

Regarding the advance sale of daily tickets and passes to the public, a source from the Impresa group, which includes the television broadcaster SIC and the streaming platform Opto, told the Lusa agency that the expectation is that more than 1,500 people will pass per day through the festival.

The daily ticket costs 75 euros and the two-day pass is 130 euros.

The announced programming includes a mix of North American independent films, Portuguese films, series, recording of live podcasts, musical performances and conversations with international and national stars.

Among the more than one hundred guests and participants are producer Jane Rosenthal and actor Robert De Niro, who founded the Tribeca festival in New York 22 years ago to support independent cinema and new talent.

The guest list also includes director Patty Jenkins, actress Whoopi Goldberg and actor Griffin Dunne, Portuguese producer Joana Vicente, Prime Video content director for Portugal and Spain Ricardo Carbonero and actress and model Sara Sampaio.

Portuguese actors Afonso Pimentel, Alba Baptista, Daniela Ruah and Joaquim de Almeida, musician Dino d’Santiago and singer Gisela João, writers Mia Couto and José Eduardo Agualusa and comedian Ricardo Araújo Pereira are other guests.

Among the approximately twenty conversations planned, there will be talk about the impact of Artificial Intelligence on film production, the art of storytelling, humour and women's empowerment.

The program will also feature some films, namely “Anora”, by Sean Baker, which won the Palme d'Or at Cannes, and “In the Summers”, by Lacorazza Samudio, awarded at Sundance.

The Portuguese series “Azul”, by director Pedro Varela, the feature film “Podia Ter Esperado Por Agosto”, by César Mourão, and the series “Unicórnios”, “about the culture of startups”, are also on the program.

The Tribeca Festival Lisboa is the result of a partnership between Tribeca Enterprises, the television broadcaster SIC, the streaming platform OPTO and the Lisbon City Council.
