According to a press release sent to the newsroom, easyJet, one of Europe's largest airlines, reopened its Faro base on Sunday from which it will operate 19 routes this summer.
By the end of October, the company will make connections to and from the Algarve, where it has 4 aircraft at base, two Airbus A319 and two Airbus A320, and which join the 5 aircrafts that operate throughout the year to Faro from other bases, reaching a total capacity of more than 2 million seats.
From Faro, easyJet will continue to contribute to the dynamism of the Algarve tourist region, allowing it to fly directly from several European cities to the south of Portugal, with routes to: Bordeaux, Lyon, Nantes, Paris Orly, Toulouse (France), Birmingham, Bristol, Glasgow, Liverpool, London Gatwick, London Luton, London Southend, Manchester, Southampton (England), Belfast (Ireland), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Basel, Geneva and Zurich (Switzerland).
José Lopes, Managing Director of easyJet Portugal, says that: "We started flying to Faro airport in 1999 and, since then, we have made more than 190 thousand flights that have allowed us to transport more than 24 million passengers to and from Faro airport. With the reopening of the Faro air base, we help to contribute to the economic and tourist development of the Algarve region. We have increased local employability and there are already 167 employees we have in this base and who will allow us to operate 19 routes this summer 2025, with a capacity for more than 2 million passengers."
easyJet started operating in Portugal in July 1998 and currently has 3 bases in Portugal (Lisbon, Porto and Faro), also flying to Funchal and Porto Santo.
