In a statement, Metro do Porto stated that the construction of an underpass at the Gaia-Devesas station, as part of the Rubi Line project, will affect rail traffic between Porto-Campanhã and Aveiro, especially at night and on weekends, "in order to minimize impacts on passengers."
"To ensure service and reduce disruptions caused by these restrictions," Metro do Porto will provide "road transfers for CP passengers, with stops at the following train stations: Porto-São Bento, Porto-Campanhã, General Torres, Gaia-Devesas, Coimbrões, Madalena, Valadares, Francelos, Miramar, Aguda, Granja, Espinho, Ovar, and Aveiro (for long-distance services)," it added.
Therefore, on weekends starting Saturday and ending August 10th, and from September 20th to 28th, train service restrictions will be in effect from 11:50 pm to 7:50 am.
On weekends from August 17th to 31st and from October 5th to December 2nd, restrictions will be in effect from 10 pm to 10 am.
On weekdays, from August 11th to September 25th (including the August 15th holiday) and from November 26th to December 12th (including the December 1st and 8th holidays), work will restrict rail traffic on that section between 11 pm and 5 am.
The start of construction of an underpass at Gaia-Devesas station, which requires these restrictions, was coordinated with Infraestruturas de Portugal and CP – Comboios de Portugal, according to Porto Metro.
The Rubi Line, 6.4 kilometres long and with eight stations, includes a new crossing over the Douro River, the D. Antónia Ferreira Bridge, and the Ferreirinha Bridge, which will be exclusively reserved for the metro and pedestrian and bicycle traffic.
In Gaia, the planned stations for the Rubi Line are Santo Ovídio, Soares dos Reis, Devesas, Rotunda, Candal, and Arrábida, and in Porto, Campo Alegre and Casa da Música.
The project must be completed by the end of 2026, but a source at Porto Metro has already admitted to Lusa that the bridge is only expected to be completed in 2027, with finishing work being the main issue.
Initially, the project was expected to cost 435 million euros. On April 16, the company's president admitted that the total cost of the Rubi Line, currently under construction between Casa da Música and Santo Ovídio, will increase by 50 million euros, and the price may still increase.
