Maybe it’s the long sunny days, the light breeze, the views, or just the way everything feels more relaxed here. Eating out isn’t just about the food; it’s the whole experience.

People come here from all over the world, and something as simple as dinner with a sunset view can stay with you for a long time. We’ve put together a mix of places we’ve been to and genuinely enjoy going back to. Some are perfect for a special night out, others for a long lunch that easily turns into sunset drinks. But they all have one thing in common — they do what they do really well.

Here are some of our favourite restaurants across the Algarve.

Gaspacho & Migas – Kitchen of Emotions (Lagoa)

Gaspacho & Migas is one of those places where you can really feel the intention behind every detail. The menu celebrates Portuguese ingredients at their best, prepared with care and a great respect for tradition, yet always with a modern twist.

The philosophy here is simple – focus on prime products and exceptional quality. They work with carefully selected suppliers, and you can honestly taste that in every dish.

The service is excellent, but still very personal. Since many of the dishes are more complex, the staff will present each one as it arrives, explaining what’s in it and where it comes from.

The whole experience is elevated by a beautifully curated wine list, focused on Portuguese wines. It feels like a journey through the country’s flavours, just done in a more refined, modern way.

Quinta dos Santos (Lagoa)

Quinta dos Santos is more than just a restaurant – it’s a whole experience. Set in the heart of the Algarve, it combines a restaurant, a winery, and even its own beer production, all in one place.

The restaurant, A Esquina, follows a farm-to-table concept, and the setting is just beautiful, with views over the vineyards. You can sit inside or outside, depending on the mood, and it works equally well for a relaxed lunch or a longer dinner with friends. Sharing plates, good wine, and a very laid-back atmosphere. It’s also a great place to try something different, like their small-batch gin or one of their cocktails.

U&Co (Vale do Lobo)

Author: U&Co;

U&Co is one of those places that just feels easy from the moment you walk in. It’s located right by the main square in Vale do Lobo, close to the beach, so it works perfectly for either lunch or dinner.

The space is super nice, cosy and modern, and just very easy to feel comfortable in. You go for a light lunch, and before you know it, you’re still there having drinks.

Amara (Quinta do Lago)

Author: Amara;

Amara is one of the more refined spots, but it still feels warm and not too formal. It’s located at Four Seasons Fairways, and it focuses on modern Portuguese dishes made with local ingredients.

The menu, created by Chef Nelson Candeias, is designed so you can build your own experience, which I always like – it makes each visit feel a bit different.

It’s a smart-casual place, so you do need to dress up a little, but it’s worth it. The atmosphere is intimate, the food is beautifully presented, and if you happen to visit on one of their jazz nights, it adds a really nice touch to the whole evening.

Brasa Coastal Steakhouse (Vilamoura)

Brasa is all about fire, and you can feel that concept throughout the whole experience. It brings together land and sea in a way that feels very “Algarve”. Not to forget, the service here is exceptional!

The focus is on fire-grilled dishes, from prime cuts of meat to seafood, all prepared with great attention to flavour. It’s a more elevated steakhouse concept, but still relaxed enough to enjoy without it feeling too formal.

Cilantro (Vilamoura)

Author: Cilantro;

Cilantro is a bit different, with a concept inspired by bold flavours and a mix of influences. Chef André Simões uses strong Italian flavours, combined with the essence of the Algarve, to create something that feels both familiar and new.

It’s a more intimate space, and they also have a private area for small events, which is a nice option if you’re celebrating something. Just keep in mind that it’s seasonal, so it’s always worth checking availability in advance.

Rei das Praias (Ferragudo)

Author: Rei das Praias ;

Rei das Praias is one of those classic Algarve places you keep going back to. It’s right on the beach in Ferragudo, and the setting alone already makes it worth it.

It’s been here since 1976 and still feels very authentic. Now run by the founder’s son, it continues to focus on high-quality fish and seafood, sourced straight from the Algarve coast.

Dining here is really about the full experience – the sound of the waves, the ocean view, fresh seafood, and a relaxed but attentive service. It’s simple, but in the best possible way.

Old Course Clubhouse (Vilamoura)

The Old Course Clubhouse in Vilamoura has been recently renovated, and it’s now much more than just a stop for golfers. It offers a really nice, refined dining experience in a modern setting.

The menu by Chef João Galvão offers lighter dishes for lunch and more filling options for dinner. It leans towards Mediterranean flavours, with a focus on seasonal, local ingredients.

Serenata (Lagoa)

Serenata, located at Vale de Lapa Village Resort, is a great option if you’re looking for something relaxed yet nicely done.

You can sit inside or on the terrace overlooking the pool, and the menu covers Mediterranean dishes throughout the day. It’s also very family-friendly, with good options for kids, which is always a plus.

The food is beautifully presented, and the overall atmosphere is calm and easy.

Taste (Carvoeiro)

Author: Taste;

Taste is one of those places that manages to balance family-friendly dining with really good food. It’s welcoming, relaxed, and works for pretty much any kind of evening.

The menu is quite varied – from tapas to meat and fish dishes, as well as vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. So, it’s a safe choice if you’re in a group and everyone wants something different.

Opened in 2011, it’s become a favourite spot in Carvoeiro, and you can see why. It’s consistent, friendly, and just easy to enjoy.

Achado by Petrunyak (Albufeira)

Author: Achado;

Achado is led by Chef Mykhaylo Petrunyak, and you can feel his personal touch in the food. There’s a lot of attention to ingredients and how everything comes together, without it feeling overdone.

The menu draws inspiration from various places and experiences, while maintaining a connection to more traditional flavours. It’s thoughtful and easy to enjoy.

Luar da Foia (Monchique)

Author: Luar da Foia;

If you’re heading up to Monchique, Luar da Foia is definitely worth the stop. Located on the way to Foia, the highest point in the Algarve, it offers incredible views over the hills.

The restaurant itself is more rustic, focusing on traditional Portuguese cuisine and local specialities. It feels very authentic, with attentive service and a calm, relaxed atmosphere.

It’s the kind of place where you go not just for the food, but for the whole setting – quiet, scenic, and very “Algarve” in a completely different way from the coast.
