The Algarve is mostly known for its breathtaking landscapes and stunning beaches, but it’s also a serious destination for fine dining and haute cuisine. Along the coast, you’ll find around 26 Michelin-recognised restaurants, not all of them have stars — some do, while others are still listed for their quality and are definitely worth a visit.

Whether you’re staying on the western side near Sagres, in the central area around Lagoa, or further east closer to the Spanish border, there is always something worth discovering.

What makes the Algarve special is how spread out these restaurants are. You’re not limited to one specific area; you can explore different parts of the region and still find a Michelin-level experience. Some are hidden in small towns, others are set within luxury resorts, and a few sit right by the ocean with incredible views.

Two absolute standouts are Ocean Restaurant and Vila Joya, both of which hold two Michelin stars and are considered among the best in Portugal. But beyond these, there are many other restaurants worth visiting.

Have a look at this guide — we couldn’t include all Michelin restaurants in the Algarve, but we tried to cover different areas so you can find something wherever you are staying.

The tasting menu changes regularly, so each visit offers something a little different, combining elegant presentation with light, balanced flavours.

Restaurant Henrique Leis (Loulé)

Author: Restaurante Henrique Leis;

Restaurant Henrique Leis is a long-established fine-dining establishment in Loulé. It held a Michelin star for 19 consecutive years, from 2000 to 2019, becoming one of the most respected names in the Algarve’s dining scene.

Chef Henrique Leis, originally from Brazil, built the restaurant around refined international cuisine with strong French influences, while also incorporating local Algarve ingredients and flavours. The result is a sophisticated but welcoming dining experience.

In 2019, the chef decided to step away from maintaining the Michelin star, while the restaurant continued to focus on the same high standards of quality, service, and attention to detail.

This is just a selection, but it gives a good overview of how strong the Michelin dining scene in the Algarve really is. Whether you’re planning something special or just want to try a different side of the region, these restaurants are definitely worth adding to your list.
