The company SEACLIFF – Real Estate Purchase and Sale, owner of the land where the work is being carried out, stated that the desalination plant works continue on the site, despite a court order that foresaw its suspension.
In a statement, the Portuguese Environment Agency and Águas do Algarve were cited in a precautionary measure that foresaw the suspension of the planned environmental licenses, in a process underway at the Administrative and Fiscal Court of Loulé.
However, quoted by Barlavento, SEACLIFF states that the entities could proceed with the work, upon presentation of a reasoned resolution, which SEACLIFF claims it did not receive.
In this sense, the company guarantees that the works will continue in the following days, including earthmoving, trenching, concreting, and operations with heavy machinery.
According to Barlavento, SEACLIFF claims that continuing the works could result in a procedural violation and has filed a legal action seeking the immediate cessation of the works.
