Speaking to Lusa, Rafael da Silva explained that the port is reopened to navigation "to ships up to 60 metres long and four metres draught," that is, "local traffic ships operating in the region.

In a statement published on its website, the maritime authority added that "the work of cleaning up and rehabilitating the port will continue in the coming days, this being a first step towards unconditional reopening to all navigation".

The Maritime Police maintains the policing at the port, ensuring the safety of access and the work that is taking place.

The Captaincy of the Port of Santa Cruz das Flores "maintains monitoring of the environmental situation, with the aim of avoiding sources of pollution in the water from the wharf".
