The man was last seen by neighbours in 2007 and is understood to have been held hostage in his family home in Amoreira ever since. According to reports this week, the man is profoundly disabled and had been kept locked in a compartment measuring around three square metres. Officers removed the man from the property after his mother assaulted a neighbour and the police were called in. The man and his younger sister have been admitted to Cascais hospital.
