According to Accor Hotels, an average of 550 million litres of wine is being consumed in Portugal per year, which means about 71.5 bottles per person per year.

Portugal is followed by France on second place, despite being responsible for 29.5 percent of global wine exports, with 54.6 bottles per person or 2,680 million litres in total. Third place, with each person consuming 50.4 bottles, is Italy and the UK made it to 17th on the list, with 24.7 bottles per year, which works out as 1240 million litres as a nation.

In the top ten are also countries like Switzerland (43.4), Austria (36.5), Belgium (34.6), Australia (33.5), Hungary (33.1), Germany (32.3) and Romania (30.8). Chile (16.7) has made its way to the bottom of the top 20 list, despite being voted the sixth best wine producer in the world.
