In a statement, the AMN said that "after receiving information from the Portuguese Environment Agency, to temporarily advise against bathing, the captain of the Port of Vila do Conde gave instructions to raise the red flag on the beach, closing the beach for swimmers.

The analysis that determined the measure was made on Monday, 20 July, and the ban on bathing will continue until the results of an analysis of water quality indicate the resumption of microbiological values within the reference parameters.

The action was articulated between the Captaincy of the Port of Vila do Conde, the Portuguese Environment Agency and the Town Council of Vila do Conde.
