Average prices in European hotels are more expensive for next Easter when compared to the same period in 2022. According to Mabrian, which analysed 20 European destinations, prices “are well above the inflation rates of each country”.
The biggest price increase can be found in Barcelona, a city where hotel prices increased, for Easter 2023 when compared to the same festive season in 2022, by 33% when the February inflation rate (compared to the same month in 2022 ) does not exceed 6%.
In Lisbon prices in hotels in the Portuguese capital have increased by 25% compared to 2022, with an inflation rate of 8.2%.
In the Top 3, in addition to Barcelona, Brussels and Rome also appear, with increases of 31% and 30%, respectively, when the indicated inflation rate is 6.6% for the Belgian capital and 9.1% for Rome.
“The average price increase across all categories is significantly higher than the annual inflation rate – based on prices published in February 2023 for a stay between 10th and 17th April – for all destinations except Budapest and Tirana, where the annual inflation rate is higher than the average price increase for this period”, reveals Mabrian.
Ljubljana, Madrid and Tirana are, in turn, the destinations where the price increase is lowest.
Carlos Cendra, Director of Marketing & Sales at Mabrian, says that, “while it is clear that hotel prices are rising sharply, we must look at this increase in the context of inflation and rising supply costs across the board”.
“In addition”, concludes the consultant's manager, “we have to take into account the increase in operating costs with personnel, due to the lack of labour and the necessary improvement of conditions. All this is combined with a strong demand for travel in this period, which drives up prices”.
