Due to between the 21st and 23rd of July, the 41st International Motorcycle Gathering is taking place, in Vale das Almas, in Faro, with a significant increase in the volume of two-wheel motor vehicle traffic on the main access roads to the Algarve region being expected, the GNR will "intensify the actions of patrolling and road control and inspection", on main national roads, in particular in accesses to the area where the concentration takes place.
This operation aims to prevent road accidents, guarantee the fluidity of road traffic and support road users, providing them with safe travel.

How is "inspecting" motorcycles going to reduce accidents? There is no enforcement of the constant and widespread driving on the wrong side of the road, lane splitting, speeding and cutting in front of vehicles in order to get to the head of the line. I would say that this is like closing the barn door after the cow has escaped, but it is more akin to fixing the chicken coop after the fox has eaten them all. This is misplaced focus that says: "See, we are doing something!"

I have ridden motorcycles for 53 years and it ceases to amaze me at the amount of riders in Portugal go out on high powered bikes wearing shorts and a tee shirt.
Do they not realise what damage tarmac does to unprotected flesh.
I would never ride without wearing gloves ,jacket and trousers which offers a bit of protection.
