About 30 municipalities in the districts of Viseu, Guarda, Coimbra, Castelo Branco, Portalegre, Santarém and Faro are now in maximum risk of fire, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).

The IPMA also placed almost the entire territory of the interior North and Center of the country, as well as some coastal municipalities in the districts of Aveiro, Coimbra and Leiria at very high risk, on a day when temperatures are expected to rise.

About 70 other municipalities in the districts of Faro, Beja, Évora, Portalegre, Lisbon, Leiria, Aveiro, Braga, Porto and Vila Real are at high risk.

The fire risk set by the IPMA has five levels, ranging from reduced to maximum and calculations are obtained from air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and amount of precipitation in the last 24 hours.
