This promise was conveyed by Mariana Vieira da Silva in a press conference, at the end of the Council of Ministers, after António Costa, as secretary general of the PS, announced on Wednesday night, in Évora, that from January next year, under 23 transport passes will become free for all children and young people up to the age of 23.

Following this announcement, the president of the National Passenger Transport Association (ANTROP), Luís Cabaço Martins, said that the measure is positive, but immediately warned that the Government needs to compensate carriers in a timely manner.

The Presidency Minister stated that this measure will be taken by the Government within the scope of the State Budget for 2024.

“The Government, when it took steps to make passes cheaper, always did so in conjunction with the operators. This, obviously, will not stop happening”, maintained Mariana Vieira da Silva.
