Porto, Viana do Castelo, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga will be under red warning between 18:00 today and 12:00 on Sunday, due to the forecast of “northwest waves measuring 7 to 9 meters, which could reach a maximum height of 15 to 16 meters”.

On Sunday, Faro, Setúbal and Beja will be under red warning between 06:00 and 12:00, and Lisbon and Leiria between 00:00 and 12:00 also due to the forecast of maritime unrest, according to the IPMA note.

The IPMA also issued an orange warning for the North Coast of Madeira and Porto Santo due to maritime unrest between 03:00 and 21:00 on Sunday.

The red warning is the most serious on a scale of three (red, orange and yellow).

The orange warning is issued by IPMA whenever there is a "moderate to high risk meteorological situation and yellow when there is a risk situation for certain activities dependent on the meteorological situation".
