A source from Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) told Lusa agency that the section of Highway 4 (A4) and the tunnel reopened after the removal of stones from the road, loose stones on the slope and assessment of safety conditions.

The GNR had reported that the rock fall occurred at kilometre 72 of Highway 4 (A4) and that the tunnel had been closed since 5:30am, with traffic being diverted to Main Route 4 (IP4), at the Campeã junction, municipality of Vila Real.

The GNR said it was a precautionary measure until the situation was assessed by Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP).
