The Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service of the Azores (SRPCBA) informs, in a statement sent to newsrooms, that, following adverse weather conditions in the archipelago, recorded between Wednesday and 07:39 local time today, 12 occurrences, “all on the island of São Miguel, in the municipalities of Ponta Delgada, Ribeira Grande, Vila Franca do Campo and Povoação”.

“The reported situations correspond, above all, to falling trees, falling structures and flooding in homes. There is no record of any injuries”, said the source.

According to the SRPCBA, members of the firefighters, the Municipal Civil Protection Services, the Regional Directorate of Public Works and the Public Security Police (PSP) have been present at the locations of the incidents, to support and resolve them.

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) issued a yellow warning on Wednesday for the islands of the Eastern group (São Miguel and Santa Maria), due to forecasts of wind and sea agitation, which is in force until 11:00 local time (12:00 in Lisbon).

The yellow warning is issued by IPMA whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation.
