The horns seized by customs authorities at Humberto Delgado Airport, in Lisbon, were transported in a cardboard package destined for Paris and weighed 7,044 kilos.
This species, like many others, is protected by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora – CITES, but continues to be a very profitable illegal business for poachers.
