Taking place between the 7th and 13th of May, this campaign "aims to alert drivers to the negative and even fatal consequences of improper use of a cell phone while driving".
Awareness-raising actions will take place simultaneously with inspection operations in the following locations:
- May 7th, at 9:30 am: IC2 - Km 33.4, Lisbon (39.049696, -8.993823);
- May 8th, at 3pm: Rua Coronel Armando da Silva Maçanita, Portimão (37.147670, -8.542525);
- May 9th, at 8:00 am: Almodôvar Service Area – North/South Direction (37.535877, -8.184205);
- May 10th, at 10:00 am: Avenida Lino de Carvalho, Évora (38.578304, -7.902009);
- May 13th, at 2:00 pm: EN18 - Km 171.100, Portalegre (39.297784, -7.448546)
The police highlight that at 50 km/h, looking at your cell phone for three seconds is the same as driving a distance of 42 meters blindfolded - the equivalent of a queue of 10 cars.
It should start from the 1st January to 31st december. And carry a 5 year ban. Problem resolved.

Every day I witness many Portuguese registered cars and trucks with drivers using their phones in their hands,it really is a disgrace,female drivers are more prevalent than males too,licences should be taken off all offenders.

Steff,
No, no, no…. that’s too complicated. The way it’s done is to do it over one week and tell everybody when and where they’re policing it. That way, Portugal can retain one of the highest mortality rates on European roads.
