“The objective is to create a database that reflects housing in Portugal today and […] this will allow us to have a map of our country, portraying the problems that people are having […] and the difficulties in not housing they would like”, sums up Camille Coyac, project manager of the non-profit organisation, which brings together data professionals and institutions with social projects.
Through a “quite complete” questionnaire, the team will collect various data, anonymously and confidentially, to understand “what are the reasons for dissatisfaction” in relation to housing and, at the same time, gather testimonial stories.
“At the moment there is no platform that shows data and stories together”, explains Camille Coyac, explaining that the aim is to treat data in a visual and graphic way.
Furthermore, the database will be made available freely, free of charge, and open to the public, “so that later, more people can carry out analyses based on this data”.
The idea of creating a public database comes from the conviction that data can be used more effectively to solve needs and challenges.
The form is accessible online (https://habitacao-transparente.dssg.pt/ ) and “Plenty of responses” have already been received, but the collection will only be closed when a “statistically relevant” number of responses is obtained, according to the project manager.
“We know that we are asking the population to make an effort to give us the data and […] fill out this form, but we believe that, if everyone participates in this initiative, we will be able, together, to create a platform that portrays our housing situation and then be able to create measures that help all participants”, he appealed.
