From January 1st to March 25th (the latest data available), the price of virgin olive oil went from 8.67 euros per litre to 8.85 euros, an increase of just over 2%.
Compared to March 2023, when a litre of olive oil costs 5.92 euros, the price has soared by more than 49%.
Was there any explanation provided for the increase? Was it caused by lower yields due to climate change? Agreements that commit some portion of the Portuguese harvest to foreign markets? Other factors? Some additional information would be helpful in order to understand the reasons for the increase.
