This year's campaign focuses on the Recife do Algarve Marine Natural Park – Pedra do Valado, with land and underwater actions planned with the aim of the protection and conservation of this area in order to raise awareness among civil society about the importance of marine protected areas.

In a statement, the Municipality of Silves highlights that the International Coastal Clean-up Day is an initiative celebrated annually on the third Saturday of September and which consists of the mobilisation of associations, citizen movements, entities, companies and schools to carry out a wave of coastal clean-ups, resulting in a demonstration of the collective power to protect the ocean.

In 2024, the Municipality of Silves, together with the Oceano Azul Foundation, and the support of the European Commission (within the scope of the #EUBeachCleanUp initiative) will host the first action of the international movement and invites all organisations, entities, associative means and the community in general to participate.
