Speaking to Lusa, STRUP leader Manuel Leal explained that the workers' plenary session will be held “outside rush hour”, but should “cause constraints [on the service] as workers collect buses” to participate in the plenary session.

Carris is a company that provides public surface urban passenger transport services that operates in Lisbon and is managed by the Lisbon City Council.

According to the trade unionist, the plenary session was scheduled so that the workers could jointly analyse the proposal from the company's board of directors regarding the payment of travel expenses.

Manuel Leal admitted that, under the terms in which the proposal was presented to the unions, it may be possible to sign the document, but he stressed that the decision will be up to the workers.

The plenary session, which was initially scheduled for November, was brought forward after the assumptions that were under discussion at the last plenary session, held during the 24-hour strike on the 18th, were changed, in response to the presentation of the company's proposal.

The plenary session, which will be held at 10:00 at the Santo Amaro station (tram workshop) in Lisbon, was called by STRUP/FECTRANS and ASPTC - Carris and Participadas Workers' Union.

The proposed protocol regarding travel presented by the board of directors is, according to the union, as follows: “whenever the end of the service is in a location more than 250 meters away from where it started, from 1/10/2024, compensation will be paid, corresponding to the estimated time for travel between the two locations, calculated based on the worker's hourly rate; on public holidays this compensation is paid with an increase of 225% and on days off with an increase of 150%”.

According to the union, the plenary session will also discuss the proposals “to be presented for the 2025 [salary] review process, which will be announced on that day”.
