According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the districts of Setúbal, Porto, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leiria, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga will be under warning between 12pm on Sunday and 6am on Monday.
Southwest waves of 4 to 5 meters are forecast, changing to northwest waves at the end of the day on Sunday.
The IPMA also issued a yellow warning for the south coast and mountainous regions of Madeira island over the weekend because of persistent and sometimes heavy rainfall.
The yellow warning will be in effect between 9pm on Saturday and 3am on Sunday.
IPMA also placed the eastern group of the Azores (São Miguel and Santa Maria) under yellow warning due to occasional heavy rain until 3pm local time today (4pm in Lisbon).
