According to ECO, Wind power production reached new all-time highs on Wednesday 19 March, reaching 112.4 gigawatt-hours (GWh), with depression Martinho allowing a new maximum wind power of 5,080 megawatts (MW), REN said.
On Wednesday, "total daily production reached 112.4 GWh, beating the 110.3 GWh recorded on 24 November, 2024," REN — Redes Energéticas Nacionais said in a statement, also adding that "depression Martinho also allowed a new maximum wind power of 5,080 MW, at 12:15, exceeding the 5,034 MW obtained at 13:45 on 29 February, 2024".
According to REN, wind production recorded on Wednesday supplied 56% of the country's electricity consumption. Renewable production was responsible for supplying 92% of electricity needs.
Since the beginning of the year, renewable production has accounted for 79% of national consumption, divided into hydro with 39%, wind with 28%, solar with 7% and biomass with 5%.
