This is a response to last December's unanimous Constitutional Court rejection, citing a violation of equality by distinguishing between citizens by birth and those who gained nationality.
To prevent further legal barriers, Chega advocates amending Article 4 to specify that nationality may be withdrawn for fraud or acts that undermine state sovereignty and values. André Ventura's proposal also adds new citizenship criteria: proof of language, history, culture, and national identity values.
According to Renascença, Ventura says that a revision is needed to reform the Constitution's "ideological burden" and invites non-socialist parties to discuss deputy reductions and justice reforms.
Ventura acknowledges the revision may extend to 2027, which aligns with PSD's expected timeframe for this legislature.
Although Chega criticises the Court's interpretation, opponents argue that the proposal still violates the principle of citizenship equality.
