According to information published as part of the municipality’s Local Housing Strategy 2019–2032, the council is exploring the acquisition of up to 100 ready-to-live homes for public housing, while additional projects are expected to move forward in the coming months.
The strategy forms part of a wider plan to increase access to affordable housing across the municipality, including areas such as Vilamoura, Almancil and Quarteira — locations where rising property prices and tourism demand have intensified pressure on the local housing market.
According to regional newspaper A Voz do Algarve, the municipality expects to deliver around 1,500 housing solutions over the next four years through a combination of new developments, acquisitions and rehabilitation projects.
The housing push comes as affordability has emerged as one of the Algarve’s biggest social and economic challenges, particularly in municipalities with strong tourism and luxury real estate sectors.
Earlier this year, the council also allocated 117 municipal housing units, described by local authorities as the largest public housing handover in the municipality's history.
Loulé mayor Telmo Pinto said the municipality would continue investing in housing projects, describing the issue as one of the council’s main priorities.
