Anjos is one of Lisbon Metro’s most interesting art stations, known for its ceramic tile panels that give the underground space a strong visual identity. The station on the Green Line was designed by architects Dinis Gomes and Sanchez Jorge, with azulejo artwork created by Maria Keil and Rogério Ribeiro.

The station is covered with patterned tiles that cover the walls from the ticket hall down to the platforms, creating a continuous decorative surface that defines the atmosphere of the whole space.

The tilework is the main feature: azulejos that form geometric and abstract compositions, guiding the eye along the walls and across the ceilings, turning a simple day into a special moment filled with colour and art. It’s nice to notice how Lisbon’s metro system has long used art to make everyday journeys more thoughtful and pleasing.

Have you visited Metro Anjos? Did you notice it’s art before?
