According to the autumn economic forecasts, Portugal is one
of the five Member States that saw the unemployment rate increase in the second
quarter of 2022, compared to the previous one, estimating a rate of 5.9% for this
year, which remains stable in 2023 and is expected to drop to 5.7% in 2024.
The European Commission's estimate of the unemployment rate
is less optimistic than the one presented by the executive in the State Budget
proposal for 2023, which estimates a rate of 5.6%.
In view of the summer macroeconomic forecasts, released in
July, unemployment was revised up by 0.2 percentage points.
