All the takings, some €4000, were raised for them and for the Portimão Soup Kitchen by this event.

David Butler-Cole was behind this light-hearted dig at all things Internet, from the difficulties I am sure we all have had in the past with passwords (‘the number of digits required, one must be a capital, one must be numerical’, etc), to the trials and tribulations of understanding the Cloud, internet identify theft, and to one man´s relationship with Alexa in his brand new car, and his frustration at this AI device spilling the beans on his bad driving to the local traffic police.

With a host of talented players, we were treated to very simple stage settings and costumes, where Madeleine Wheare competently introduced scenarios a light-hearted manner, and from all acts we were able to identify past computer problems either from a personal viewpoint or explaining it to others. Some amusing singing to guitar accompaniment was provided by Eric Roth.

There were some fluffing of lines and mis-timings in the production, all of which can be put down to ‘first-night nerves’ and can be expected in any show or play. Overall, The Internet of Things’ was certainly an entertaining production worth attending, especially as their goal of raising a much welcome €4000 was met for the charities involved. The setting of the theatre itself added comfort and ambiance for all viewers. Well done to them all - both those on-stage and back-stage - for their time and talents, and particularly to David Butler-Cole for his inspiration.
