“During the month of August 2024, operators of all pig farms are obliged to declare the livestock they have, referred to the 1st of that month”, reads a notice published by DGAV.
As a rule, pigs have to be declared in April, August, and December.
Declarations can be made by the operator on the Institute for Agriculture and Fisheries Financing (IFAP) portal, in the Regional Food and Veterinary Services departments or in farmer organisations registered with IFAP.
This health measure is intended to control Aujeszky's disease.
The virus, which affects the respiratory and reproductive systems of pigs, can also be transmitted, through pigs, to other animals.
If they do not comply with this measure, pig farmers are subject to penalties, such as the operator not issuing transit guides for pigs for life, through iDigital.
DGAV is a central service of direct State administration, with administrative autonomy.
