Duarte Rito, Cabrita’s Wine Tourism Manager, skillfully and passionately told the Cabrita story which only really began in 2000 when the current owner, José Manuel Cabrita, inherited the vineyard from his father. Duarte then introduced the six wines starting with the company’s award-winning Sparkling Negra Mole Blanc de Noir 2016. With Cabrita’s project based on producing quality wines from local traditional grape varieties, members were able to taste first-hand how this has been put into practice - dry and sweet moscatos as well as the flagship negra mole and the blends of the classic and the reserve reds including Trincadeira, Aragones and the classic Touriga Nacional grape varieties.
Said Algarve Wine Society member, Barbara Kurau, who co-ordinated the tasting: “It’s hard to believe that the first Cabrita wine was only bottled as recently as 2007 as the quality and consistency is so high. It was great for us ‘local’ wine lovers to understand more of what is being produced on our own doorstep and, even better, to taste it!”
