The strike notice covers “all education professionals”, from technical and operational assistants, teachers, senior and specialised technicians, “who carry out their professional activity in the education sector, scientific research and professional training.”
The strike was called by Stop to highlight the “importance and urgent need to value and dignify all education professionals”.
Specifically, they defend salary increases of a minimum value of 120 euros, a “fair and quota-free” assessment, the right to free training and during working hours, “democratic school management”, with the election of the director and coordination by all workers of the school, and the possibility of access for everyone to the Caixa Geral de Aposentações.
Watching Portugal improve the education system is very rewarding. As a former USA resident I am happy to see very good progress. Teacher pay is critical to getting good educators. I love paying tax here as it aids all these efforts.
