Ricky’s Story

Born in the UK, Ricky began his career as a police officer with the Lincolnshire Constabulary. After early retirement due to ill health, he worked in the food farming industry in Boston, Lincolnshire. Relocating to Portugal, around 18 years ago from the UK, Ricky and his partner Dee became well-known for their warmth and community spirit—running the kitchen at Devlins Bar, hosting lively bingo, karaoke, and quiz nights in Albufeira, and later managing the Olive Branch restaurant near Messines.

In 2017, Ricky and Dee established the Charity Barn, laying the foundation for what would become Arm In Arm In Algarve. Despite Dee’s passing in 2018, Ricky pressed on, building a legacy of compassion and community service.

Over 100 supporters of Arm in Arm joined together to celebrate the life of Ricky at Roosters, his favourite coffee and lunch spot, on Saturday July 12, where a plaque was unveiled in memory of Ricky and Dee.

Ricky is survived by his devoted daughter, Rebecca, and will be deeply missed by customers, volunteers, and friends at the Arm in Arm charity shop in São Bartolomeu de Messines. His ashes were lovingly scattered alongside his late partner Dee on Sunday, July 13, 2025, a poignant reunion for a couple whose shared vision transformed countless lives.

Let us remember Ricky not only for his achievements, but for the spirit of kindness and community he inspired in the Algarve. His legacy lives on in every life touched by Arm In Arm In Algarve.
